This is by far my favorite job that I have done from home. The only problem is that it is not year round. These companies below hire people to work from home to help grade the essay portions or writing portions of standardized tests. The portion of the test that you are grading is scanned by the company into the system. Once you are hired by one of the companies you will be notified when a testing period is coming up. Most standardized tests are given towards the end of the school year so the spring and beginning of summer are usually pretty busy. Once you know a testing period is coming up you can go in and schedule yourself for however many hours you want. They usually require you to sign up for shifts in blocks of a few hours or so but besides that you can do as little or as much as you would like. You don't have to be on the phone so you don't have to worry about the kids running around making lots of noise. Some of the tests you are grading high school students writing an essay and some of them you are grading an elementary students spelling. These companies score for many different types of standardized tests from elementary school all the way through college. I am pretty sure that they require that all scorers have a college degree but it does not matter what the degree is in. For a few of the standardized tests they do require that you have your teaching certificate.

Work From Home Virtual Call Center Companies
This is the updated list of virtual call center companies. These companies all hire employees to work from home as a virtual call center agent. Some of these companies are specific to incoming calls only and some are outgoing calls only and some are both. Some of them only handle customer service calls, some are incoming or outgoing sales calls, some are business to business sales. So before you apply with any of them decide what exactly you are comfortable doing as a call center agent. Also, some of these companies only hire in certain areas and I have tried to list that nest to them. Some of these companies hire you as an employee like Alpine Access which I have mentioned in a previous post but most of them hire you as an independent contractor. This means a variety of things including the fact that you will have to figure out what that means for your taxes but it also means you have the freedom to work for more than one company if you wish. Some of these jobs are full time but most are not. I know many people who work for a few of them to get the number of hours they want. Also, some of these companies pay by the hour regardless of how busy you are like Alpine Access but some of them pay by the minute only when you are actually on a call. These are all factors you need to take into consideration when applying for one of these jobs. I am pretty sure all of them require you to have high speed internet but there are a few that also require a separate phone line used exclusively for work. Good luck!

NEW Home Based Customer Care Representatives
As you all know there are a number of virtual call center companies out there that hire people to work from home. I will be posting my updated list of those another day here. I wanted to post this today though about this company called NEW that I just heard of the other day that is now hiring employees to work from home as a home based CCR(Customer Care Representative). Basically they are a virtual call center company that handles retail, manufacturer, utility and financial service companies. Although the company looks like it has been around for a while from what I hear they have only been hiring from home the last few years. They handle incoming customer service and support calls, no sales. They have more information on their website to look over the requirements you need on your computer, etc. One thing it does mention on the website is that you have to do training at one of their facilities. From what I have heard if you happen to live near one of their offices you would train there otherwise you have to have enough people in your area interested to hold one there. I wanted to mention this one today because the website says they are holding a virtual job fair tomorrow so if you think there might be a possibility that you would be interested you could attend in order to get more information about the job and where training would be offered.

Make a Little Extra Spending Money as a Mail Decoy Update
Funny name, huh? Well, this is not exactly what I would call a job but it is a very easy way to make some extra money from home. Basically you receive mail addressed to your address but another name or sometimes series of numbers. Once you sign up you will need to let your mailman know that you will be receiving this kind of mail so that he does not return it, thinking that it was addressed wrong. You log the mail each night onto the company’s website filling in a very quick form with the name it was addressed to, the company it was sent from, a code that will be on the mail piece, the date you received it and then the condition it was in. Basically, this is done by companies to track how long mail takes to arrive and the condition it arrives in. Besides getting paid for something that takes very little time, you also sometimes receive stuff in the mail you can keep like magazines and such. They pay you by the piece and sometimes it takes a while before you start getting very much mail, they slowly add your address into different assignments. Some areas already have a lot of mail decoys so you may not get much work at all and other areas they may need someone very badly and send you a ton of mail. You can check on the website to see if they need someone in your area. As far as I know these are the only two companies that do this service.

Work from Home Transcription Companies Updated List
Here is the updated list of transcription companies that I know hire from home. If you do not have past experience doing data entry or typing from home at least then these are a lot harder to get. You may want to try starting off with some of the data entry companies even though they do not pay very well just to get some experience under your belt and then apply with these companies.
Transcription means you are transcribing some kind of messages from an audio format to a written document. There are all different kinds of transcription including medical, legal and general transcription.
Fantastic Transcripts
Net Transcripts
Mountain West Processing - hiring inexperienced and experienced transcribers who can type 60wpm

Scams
When you first start looking for a work from home job it may be a little intimidating. Just Craigslist alone has so many telecommuting jobs listed it is hard to sort through what is real and what is a scam. Here are some things to watch for when searching for a legitimate work from home job.
Does the job ask for your resume or application?
If the company seems very uninterested in your background or experience chances are it is a scam.
Do they give a detailed description of what the job is and what you would be doing?
If the job description is non-existant or very, very vague then chances are there is no real job.
Does the job ad sound more as if it is trying to sell YOU on the job instead of selling the job on you?
If the ad for the job sounds as if it is trying to sell you it's probably a scam. Any real job is going to want you to sell yourself to them with your resume and experience not the other way around.
Does the ad say something like "MAKE $2000 a week working part time!!!"?
Once again, if it sounds too good to be true then it usually is.
Do they ask for money?
This is a bad sign but if they start asking for money before they have even interviewed you then it is even worse. There are some legitimate work at home companies that will require you to pay for your own background test. I have worked for two of them so I know they are legit but before you hand out money for ANY reason make sure you do your research.
If the ad lists the name of the company or the website then do your research. There are lots of websites you can check to see if the company has complaints against them. Scambusters.com and Ripoffreport.com are just a couple. Also check a few work at home forums and do a search by the company name. You may find postings by people who work for the company and can back up that they are legit or you may find postings by people who were attempted to be scammed. Also, another great way to check out a website is to do a search for the domain. You can find out how long that domain has been registered and to who. If it is a brand new domain then be careful. There are several places you can do this at but here is one. Just type in the domain name and it will tell you when it was registered http://whois.domaintools.com/

Key for Cash
Key for Cash is another company I recommend for those of you who have not worked from home before. They hire people to do data entry from home and you can do it in your spare time as much or as little as you want to. There are no set hours and no phone work. I am sure experience helps but I know others who have gotten hired who have not done data entry or transcription previously as long as you are a fast typist. Like I have mentioned previously data entry and transcription are a great way to make money working from home but many of the companies require experience and even specifically want you to have experience working from home doing it so these types of companies are a great way to get your foot in the door. The pay is per piece so the faster you type the more money you can make. You must be 18 and live in the United States, have a computer and a internet connection. Other than that they don't really have any other specifications. As usual, no fees.
https://www.keyforcash.com/
Be careful when signing up for any data entry jobs you see posted on job boards especially if they sound something like "make $500-2000 a week!". Remember, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Don't give anyone your banking information and if they start asking for money it's time to bug out. Many of the jobs for data entry or "rebate processing" on job boards are scams and when you reply they will try to sell you "training materials". These training materials basically are directions on how you too can post ads(data entry) on job boards just like they did and charge other people for "training materials". If you have not heard of a company do your research. Google the company and see what you find. Check ripoffreport.com and scambusters.com and search in a few WAHM forums. If you do get scammed be sure to contact your BBB and post on the above websites to warn others about the company. I try to only post companies I know have been around for a long time and that I have talked to people who work for them but still always be careful.

Internet Brands
Internet Brands owns several online community and e-commerce sites. They hire for many work from home positions and you can do a job search on their website and look for those that have location listed as "remote" or "work from home". One position they are currently hiring for that might be a good Mom job is for an Online Shopping Guru. You would post short articles about online bargains that you find. You are responsible for finding the bargains and then posting them. The pay is per post which always makes me worry if you are going to end up doing a lot of work for not much money but it is supposed to be steady work so sometimes it is worth it to have something steady.

Wanelo
Well I wouldn't exactly call this a work from home job but for those of you out there looking to just make a little extra money to help make ends meet, this might be right up your alley. I would say it is somewhat unresearched because it is a fairly new company and those that I know that have been hired say it is legit but I am always careful to mention when it is a company that has not been around too long. This was posted on the craigslist posting below but you can also just go to the website and register as the directions say in the posting.
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/wri/1373956119.html
Are you a Mom or a Dad who has tried lots of pregnancy, baby, toddler or kid products?
Wanelo.com, a new social network for shopping, is looking for moms & dads to submit thoughtful and honest reviews of ANY products they use or have used for their babies, toddlers, older children or pregnancy. These can also be products that moms & dads use to make their lives (as parents) easier. Reviews must be a minimum of 130 words in length. $5 will be paid for each 10 qualifying reviews submitted.
Payments will be made by Paypal every Friday in increments of 10 reviews; get $5 for 10 reviews, $10 for 20 reviews, $15 for 30 reviews...
How to Get Paid:
1. Go to http://www.wanelo.com and register. Make sure to upload a profile picture. (Registration is very quick. Don't worry-we never send out spam or ask for any personal information.)
2. Email [email protected] to let us know your Wanelo username BEFORE writing any reviews. In the email, please let us know your age, the ages of all of your children, and your location. If you are hired, instructions for writing reviews will be emailed to you.
(Only the first 1000 qualifying reviews will be paid as of this initial posting.)
Qualifying reviews must be:
- in English
- a least 130 words in length
- products reviewed must be products for babies, toddlers, older children, or specifically for parents.
- relevant to the product the review is about
- free of any curse words
- must employ good spelling and grammar
Thanks!

OnPoint
OnPoint is another virtual call center but I can not give as much information about their company. I know many people online who work for them but once you work with them you sign a nondisclosure agreement so none of them can tell me exactly what it is they do. I know it is outbound calls but not sales and I know they pay good compared to a lot of other similar companies. I also know they pay hourly not per minute. I have heard that they have been hiring recently so check it out.

Alpine Access
Alpine Access is one of the companies I have mentioned to many of you before but I thought I would give more detail on it. It was one of my first work from home jobs when they were just getting started. I worked for them for five years. Now it is one of best virtual call centers out there in my opinion. It has it's pros and cons but overall I think it is a great company to work for. Many of the virtual call center companies out there pay by the minute while you are on a call so if you happen to get a slow night you won't be making much. Alpine Access pays by the hour regardless of how busy or slow you are. They also hire you as an employee instead of an independent contractor like most companies. They even offer some benefits. This type of work from home jobs is for those that need a lot of work, most of the jobs are closer to full time work. This is also not the job for you if you need a lot of flexibility which is why I ended up having to leave. Most of the schedules are a fixed shift meaning you work the same shift 5 days a week. If you have kids in school or something like that it might be ideal but if you have babies, probably not. You obviously need a quiet background while working and they don't usually have too many assignments that are real late evenings after the kiddos are in bed. You do need a landline phone and high speed internet. It is all incoming, no outgoing calls. They have a wide variety of different clients and assign you to only one so that you get very comfortable with it. Some are all customer service calls, people calling in to place orders or check on their orders or have questions about their account and some are a little more sales oriented. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

Quicktate
Quicktate is a great company to get hired with if you have no transcription experience. Transcription is a very popular work from home job and pays very well but most of the companies require experience. This is one of the fewer companies that hires inexperienced people as long as you have a fast typing speed. They do sometimes have a wait to be hired so if you don't hear back right away be patient. Many people apply with as many work at home jobs as possible at first which is a good idea for multiple reasons. First, many companies like this one have a wait and also many companies do not have steady hours so some people choose to work multiple work at home jobs until you find something very steady. Once you get some experience doing data entry or transcription from home you will find it much easier to get the other transcription jobs. Quicktate is a company that basically takes your voicemails and turns them into text to be sent to your phone or email so basically you listen to people's voicemails and transcribe them.

Merriman River Group
This company conducts public opinion research polls and political surveys. You connect to their dialer through their website and then their computer system automatically dials phone numbers in your area. No sales involved but it is basically outgoing phone calls. No set schedule but the different assignments usually are only conducted during certain hours so if you want work you have to log on during those particular hours. They actually have an assignment they are hiring for starting tomorrow (the 8th). I am not sure if they are full yet but send your resume to [email protected] if you are interested. This one is for US only and you must have a landline phone. Also, there are gaps between the different assignments usually so this is not necessarily steady work.

Google Ads Quality Rater
The third company that I am aware of that hires for these search engine type jobs is Workforce which hires temp employees for Google. I have sent many of you this one previously. The jobs are listed as Ads Quality Rater. They are currently hiring in English and many other languages. Don't get discouraged if you don't hear back right away. These types of jobs also usually do not have enough work to make a full time job if that is what you are looking for. Some people do a variety of these smaller part time jobs from home in order to get enough hours and some people are just happy to work a couple hours a day. Please let me know if anyone else is aware of any other companies that hire for search engine evaluators on a regular basis.

Lionbridge
Along the same lines as the previous post, this company hires search engine evaluators as well. They are currently only hiring only in certain states in the US and if you are bilingual your chances are much better. There is a list on the website of all the other countries they are hiring in as well. If they are not hiring in your state yet then they will keep your application on file until they are. Still very flexible, no minimum hours, etc. No phone work either. For both of these jobs you have to pass a test or two before you are hired in order for them to see if you are capable of doing the work. Best of luck!

Leapforce
This company is one not mentioned on my site yet but it will be on there soon. They hire "search engine evaluators" to work from home. Right now they are hiring for English speaking in the US and in Canada and then also they are in need of evaluators for Chinese, Spanish and Farsi. It is a very flexible job from what I hear and you basically work as much or as little as you want. The nice thing about this one for Moms is that there is no phone work at all so your little ones can be running around yelling as much as you want! Good luck!
