I don't usually bother posting About.com guide positions because they do require their writers to be experts in the subject matter but this one caught my eye because I know many of you fellow bloggers out there are big in to the social networking scene. The guides at About.com are paid very well compare to other similar sites and have a guaranteed income the first year while you build up a following. Here are the details os the position.
We're looking for a talented, enthusiastic writer to cover social networking and, to a much lesser degree, other types of personal web pages. The ideal candidate:
* Must be plugged-in and passionate about social networking and have a keen understanding of the increasing importance of social media.
* Should have a knack for writing friendly, useful tutorials, as well as a proven track record of developing sources and working a beat.
* Should have access to a smartphone (iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm Pre or Android phone) that allows access to mobile versions of social networking sites.

PRIMARY AUDIENCE:

Anyone who is looking to make better use of social networking for both personal and professional reasons. The blog should serve social networking enthusiasts, but there should be plenty of evergreen content for newbies as well.

TOPICS TO COVER:

The site should primarily cover tools and tips for using social networking (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc.) -- everything from choosing a social networking site, to setting up a profile and privacy settings, to using special codes to customize your page. The site should have loads of useful advice as well as information about games, quizzes, trends and other things that are just for fun. To a much smaller degree, you will be covering non-blog personal web pages (created using WYSIWYG tools) and personal wikis. You will be building on an existing site focused on Personal Web Pages, so part of the job will entail curating a large archive of material.
