What Is a Google Ads Quality Rater?
Ad Quality Raters are responsible for giving feedback on the quality and content accuracy of advertisements on Google. Basically they need a human element to verify that their algorithm is providing the right kinds of results for exactly what a person is looking for.
Each task you are given is related to a specific query someone might search. Your job is to rate the results that come back in order of highest relevancy. These positions are often temporary and while there are some English speaking only openings, many of the positions require a second language.
While raters technically work for Google, the positions are usually hired through a third party company. If you only speak English watch for the rater positions for English raters.
How Do You Work from Home As A Google Ads Quality Rater?
All positions require a four year college degree. Applicants must already have their own computer with a high speed internet connection. If applying for one of the bilingual positions then you must also be fluent in that language.
Raters are hired as independent contractors and must work at least ten hours per week to stay active. Raters usually start at around $15 an hour. Most positions are contractual for a one year time period. You can then reapply after a waiting period.
The positions are not usually advertised on the Google career site so you must apply for them through the ZeroChaos website (the third party company that does some of the hiring) and search for the terms “ads quality rater”. You have to be fairly knowledgeable with basic computer skills.
Before being hired you are given some study materials and are then tested on how well you understand the rating system they will be using for rating.
It really is pretty easy once you understand their goal is to provide users with the best user experience. By rating search results using their guidelines and thinking about what kind of results you would want if you were the individual googling those search terms you can help search engines give users the best experience possible.
All of the companies that hire for these positions require you to complete training successfully before beginning. That means if you hear back from them and they want to work with you and have you start filling out the paperwork but you then can not complete training successfully then they will not be hiring you.
The training can take a long time and it is done on your own time so it is not paid training. You can take as much time as you want usually to complete the training and then you are given an exam. The exam is not really a test with questions and answers it is more an exact demonstration of the types of tasks you will be doing as a rater.
If you pass the exam meaning you provided the correct results about how the tasks should be rated then you will be given access to the platform meaning you can start working.
