What is Mystery Shopping?

Mystery shopping is a tool used by a wide variety of businesses to gain feedback on their business, customer service, and employees. It can be used to gather specific information or just a general quality rating. Mystery shoppers are freelancers that can work for a variety of mystery shopping companies performing these services. Types of tasks may include “shopping” a grocery store, retail store, bank, gas station, restaurant, spa, beauty salon, move theater, concert, or sporting event. Generally mystery shoppers are expected to answer specific questions, report which employees they deal with during their shop and the type of service they received. A form, questionaire, or written explanation is completed by the mystery shopper within a certain amount of time after they complete their shop.

How much money can I make as a mystery shopper?

Pay varies based on what is required, the amount of time it will take, and what, if anything, you will be receiving free from completing the task. Some assignments may not even include payment but instead consider the assignment itself payment such as free concert tickets, etc. Make sure you are clear ahead of time on what is expected of you and what the payment is before agreeing to the assignment. Also make sure that once you accept an assignment that you complete it on time and with high quality. This will guarantee you more assignments with that company.
