General transcription jobs are hard to come by as so many of the transcription work from home jobs require specialized skills in the legal or medical field. For those looking for a work from home job in the transcription field that do not have this specialized experience then general transcription jobs are the way to go.
What is transcription?
Transcribing means you are taking audio files of some sort and transcribing them into a written form. General transcription just means that you are transcribing materials such as audio files, podcasts, lectures, notes that do not require specialization in the medical or legal fields.
How do I get general transcription jobs?
Some of the general transcription companies hire people without experience such as Rev.com but many of them require some training or previous experience in transcription. There are a lot of courses and programs out there to teach you transcription if you have no experience but many of these are scams or just don’t have very good reviews from previous customers. The only one I usually recommend for those looking to start a transcription career is Transcribe Anywhere. They offer a free mini-course for those interested. They also have a legal transcription free mini-course for those interested in specializing in that, it is even higher in demand.
How do I get hired for general transcription jobs?
Visit each of the websites below to apply for any transcription opportunities. Many of the companies require a test as part of the application process to test your speed and previous transcription knowledge. Each company will vary on if they require no experience or previous experience so visit the application pages to find out more. The pay also varies per company but the transcription companies generally pay per minute. One of the nice things about transcription jobs is that they usually do not require a commitment to certain hours per day. Transcribers log on and choose projects and generally work as much or as little as they would like. This makes these positions great for stay at home moms who need to work around nap times or a school schedule.
